Using ultrasound on the foot and ankle has helped doctors considerably with assessing pathology, confirming the diagnosis and giving more accurately placed injections. One ultrasound guided injection we do is in the retrocalcaneal bursa. Using the ultrasound helps the physician stay away from injecting into the Achilles’ tendon and possibly causing an Achilles’ tendon rupture.
