Avulsion Fractures

Avulsion Fractures

How strong are your ligaments? These x-rays show avulsion fractures of the lateral and medial malleolus at the attachment of the ankle ligaments. The patients had severe ankle sprains, and instead of the ligaments tearing it pulled so hard that it avulsed a piece of bone. Along with the fracture, the pt can possibly have cartilage damage in the ankle joint and tendon tears. These aren’t normally found until after the patient is walking again. If you have had any ankle trauma please come see us to avoid any long-term complications or arthritis development.
